HOSPITALITY AND SERVICE OPPORTUNITIES
|
Hospitality
The role of greeters at Mass has been aptly described as the ministry of hospitality. We thank them for this
ministry of welcoming not only long time parishioners but visitors and newcomers as well. Our goal as a
hospitable parish is to have greeters at all weekend Masses. If you would like to be a greeter, call Sister
Angela Burke at (510) 222-0432 or angelaburke@ATT.net

Ushers
The ushers of St. Callistus Church share in the ministry of hospitality, but with added duties. They usually
arrive 15 minutes before the Mass. Our ushers make sure that the front door of the church are open. It is
essential that people are able to exit the Church quickly during an emergency. We encourage all ushers to
join our greeters in welcoming those who come to Mass. A smile, a handshake or a word of welcome is
usually appreciated by all, especially the newcomers. The ushers are also responsible for the collections
each Sunday and for asking for volunteers to carry the gifts at the Offertory Procession.

Liturgy Committee
The St. Callistus Liturgy Committee consists of about 6-8 representatives of the Liturgical Ministries and
meets about 4 times a year to plan for the following:
- the major Liturgical Seasons (Advent/Christment & Lent/Easter)
- major parochial liturgical events (anniversaries, other special events, etc.), and
- to evaluate them all.
The Art and Environment Committee is a key sub-committee of the St. Callistus Ligurgical Committee and
always work together.

Art and Environment
The Art and Environment Committee is a subcommittee of the Liturgy Committee. It meets prior to the
major feasts of the Church such as Advent/Christmas/Lent/Easter/Pentecost as well as times when the
Sacraments of First Communion and Confirmation are celebrated.
The Committee is responsible for planning and decorating the Church. Decorations such as banners,
flowers, lighting and other artistic arrangements add colors, hospitality, beauty and meaning to the place of
worship. They also give a continuity to the seasonal celebrations and inspire a feeling of participation in the
Faith Community.
If you would like to offer your artistic talent to beautifying the House of God, please contact Carole Freeman
at (510) 223-4917

Outreach to the Sick and Housebound
Weekly visits to the sick and elderly shut-in parishioners are made by a dedicated group of parishioners.
The Eucharist is taken to all who cannot attend church either because of illness or old age. They are
updated regarding the goings-on in the parish community so that they don't feel left out. For more
information, please call Sister Angela Burke, Outreach Coordinator, at (510) 222-0432 or
