Of all the ministries restored to the laity by the liturgical reform of the Second Vatican Council, perhaps none
is more important than the ministry of the Lector.  Along with the deacon, the priest and the bishop, the lector
is entrusted with the crucial task of making the word of God come alive by proclaiming it for the Christian
assembly.

Ministry of the Eucharist
Ministers of the Eucharist have a unique and specific function to perform at each
liturgy: the Ministry of Communion.  Pope Paul VI authorized special ministers of
Communion to distribute the Body and Blood of Christ to their fellow worshipers at
the Liturgies and with those confined to their home, so that no one "be deprived of
this sacramental help and consolation."

Eucharistic ministers must be truly present to others as they offer them the Body and
Blood of Christ.  They are among their fellow worshipers as ones who serve and it is
a true way of exercising one's baptismal call.

If you feel you are called to this ministry and would like to undertake some training, please call St.
Callistus at (510) 223-1153.

Ministry of Sacristan
Before one can answer the question of what is the ministry of sacristan, one has to define
that place called the sacristy.

The sacristy is that room in a Catholic Church usually adjoining the sanctuary in which the
sacred vessels, a variety of altar supplies, vestments and other related items are kept.  The
person who manages all of this in preparation of church liturgies is called the sacristan.

If you have any questions regarding the ministry of sacristan, feel free to call the parish
office at (510) 223-1153.
A Sacristan seeks to serve the church family by setting the table of the Lord for all the children of God to
come and gather in worship.  To fulfill this important ministry so as to better enable the community to come
worship and receive our Eucharistic Lord.
